Also the mirrorless segment is now fast nudging DSLRs for quality and performance. You want FPS? Have you seen the FPS rates of most mirrorless? Very fast.

Find me a mirrorless that does high quality AF and subject tracking (like the D300 or D700 do) while shooting at max fps.  I can't find any.  Many mirrorless don't even AF at all after the first frame when shooting at max fps.  This is one part of the technology that is still vastly superior in higher-end dSLRs.  Probably won't stay true forever, but it is that way now.  If you can prefocus (like on a batter hitting a baseball), then maybe they would work, but if you need to track a moving soccer player, I don't think mirrorless is even close yet.  If you know of one, please let me know.

I have a D800E and recently a Fuji XE1. I pick up the XE1 more often than the D800E. But of course if I want the very best shot I use my D800E. Why? Because it is light and small and image quality is not far away and it has far superior out of the camera jpegs 50% of the time.

In the mirrorless forums you don't hear anyone considering a Nikon or Canon mirrorless. They are all about either a Fuji XE1, Sony Nex or OMD EM5. Perhaps Nikon's system is a lower tier unit. I just don't hear many photographers talking about it.

I've noticed the same thing.  If you ask what the best mirrorless cameras are, nobody talks about Nikon.  I'm comparing NEX and EM5 to buy something smaller light for backpacking.  Both have sensors at least as good as my D300.  Right now, it seems like D3200 and D5200 are under serious attack from the good mirrorless cameras.
