Hi there!

I'm looking at getting a 24-70mm F2.8 lens for my Nikon D7000. I have been looking at the 3rd party lenses as the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 is way out of my price range. What I am not sure about is some lenses are Macro and some not and the ones that are not are higher in price. Is there a big difference in image quality between macro and none macro when shooting general portraits? Can someone please suggest to me a lens? I'm not looking for a lens with a motor as the D7000 has one built in.

Any input is helpful

Thanks

Macro is for macro shooting not for portraits so you do need to worry about the portrait quality. Usually macro in such type of zooms means rather close-up (1:2 ratio at max) than the real macro. There is not a lot of lenses to choose in this range: Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 IF EX DG HSM or Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 VC USD. The latter lens has vibration reduction but is ca 50% more expensive.
