At what point is the manufacturer responsible for resolving problems? I get that they had challenges but the reallity is that it is NOT a green light to

Such as? I would imagine that none of the products they "rushed" to market had known problems...though some had problems that were discovered after they went to market.

-Sell the product knowing of issues just to beat your competitor to the market.

See above. Are they supposed to discontinue the d800 because of the left AF issue, even though reliable sources suggest that only 20% of users were afflicted, and of those 20% a relatively small number actually had the issue, while the rest were mis-diagnosing it?

-Dont admit of an issue / Lie about not having the issue.

Ok. they could be better, but see above. These things are rarely cut and dried.

-Continue to sell products with the defect after being made aware of them.

See above.

-Have no long term solution for the problems.

See above. Not all of the perceived isues re issues, and not all afflict as large a user base as might be apparent from reading message boards.

-Leave customers out in the cold.

Yes, they could be better at a) communicating and b) problem resolution.

-Cut off part sales to repair shops and user replaceable parts.

Not my favorite move of theirs, and one which I too disagree.

-Lie and blame IMPACT damage as a new source to generate income.

Agree, though not sure exactly what is going on here. Yes, there are stories of this happening, but there are also stories of great service from Nikon.

This all adds up to poor service and greed no matter how you look at it. This is a $2,000-$3,000 products and not tupperware for the kitchen or even a $200 TV that has defects. These are high ticket items that people count on and need them to work. These devices are sometimes used to capture once in a lifetime events and quality control and service is imperative to the buyer. Sorry you cant defend nikon and make them out to be victims. They made faulty products rushed to the market to beat canon and it was done at some of our expense.

If you feel this strongly, there are other brands out there. Yes, there seem to be some QC issues. No, I don't subscribe to the "the Sky Is Falling" mentality. If you do, that is your right.
