Not at all!

It's only when viewing originals at 100% that you really notice it and that's the problem. Whether you are using DX or FX, you are going to see noise at higher ISO's at 100% view.

Your D5100 should show a small increase in noise levels up to ISO 800. Only when you go higher will you see a noticeable decline. That's to be expected. Sure FX will get you 1 stop better ISO, give or take, but that doesn't mean all that much in practical terms unless you are printing large and most people don't.

After PP for noise, etc, D5100 images at 1600 and higher can look great on screen and in print.
