Thom Hogan thinks Nikon is just being stupid in neglecting DX. I think Nikon is deliberately doing so, trying to move people to FX.

That's because Thom Hogan isn't considering that while DX still out sells FX by a large margin, the vast majority of those DX sales are D3200 class cameras and occur due to price not because the buyer prefers DX to FX. If Nikon made the D3300 FX and still sold it for $600 with a kit lens it would sell just as much, maybe even more, as the D3200 did. Also the vast majority of people using these cameras only use the kit lens and maybe the 55-200mm. It is the people on the more expensive bodies, especially the FX bodies,  that buy the most lenses and other accessories so it is very smart for Nikon and canon to move their semi-pro/enthusiasts cameras and lenses to FX and leave DX for the cheap entry level models.
