Does everyone save their ORFs and XMPs?

I have been tossing my ORFs after i get a picture balanced the way I like it. Is that a mistake and why? I figure I can gently modify a jpg once or twice if i want to print it later on without distorting the final file very much. Also there is naming consistency and disk space. My 95% jpgs are about 3 meg and the ORFs are about 15 meg. I am using ACR and PS CS6.
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Harvo
