The D800 miscalibrated AF issue was so prevalent (20 to 30% of cameras affected) among the ones that were shipped in the first months that Nikon has no excuse for not having caught that up before the mass production begins ... unless it had been negligent in its testing of the first cameras out of production.

I think a better way to put it is "would you wait for one more month when Nikon introduces a camera so that it can test more thoroughly the new body ? . Nikon would make more money today if it had done that with the D600 and D800, because it would not have to deal with the negative advertisement coming from the dust-oil / AF issues fiascos.

So, what happens to all those first batch cameras sitting on the shelf? They can't all just sit there waiting. Something has to happen.

The point is, if they didn't cut production costs, then maybe they could afford to QC correctly in the first place. It is all very well to say that they should do it, but they obviously didn't and so here we are.

and what do you think this "correct" QC would consist of VS what they're doing now?
