We already pay for the warranty even though people might think it's free. Dell years ago used to include a 3 year warranty standard of course you were paying for this. This is why there is "grey market" aka import versions that sell for less than the say "USA" version. By buying the "import" version you save money by not paying for a warranty and taking the risk of not having any issues with your purchase within the first year. But I know Canon is known for fixing some issues for free even when an item is out of warranty.

Would you rather have warranties eliminated and save money off the purchase hoping problems will be few and cost less than the warranty would or pay a fair price for a product that is well built and backed by a company? I'll take the well built product please.

Why would I want to save a few $ by getting rid of warranties when I am prepared to pay a little more to get top notch QC?

As I have said elsewhere on this thread, the 5D MKII was $3,500 upon release and there seems to be few QC issues. The D800 is at least as good and could be argued to be a better camera yet it is $500 cheaper.
