About the 'sticky' flash mechanism, you should get some spray iso-propyl achohol or CRC contact cleaner, open the flash mechanism and whilst holding the camera upside down spray the mechanism lightly until the sticky stuff washes out. The contact cleaner will evaporate after a few seconds (but leave the camera with flash open upside down for a few minutes to be sure) and all should be OK. If it's still a little sticky do it again.
