I use a gitzo aluminum monopod similar to the CF one posted here. Since the monopod is only a stick, unlike a tripod, I don't think the CF version gets you enuf weight loss to be worth the money. Of course if you have the money... I usually use it with a 300 2.8L to shoot marathons. In that case I put my Acratech ballhead on it. Lately I keep a cheap Chinese ballhead attached in case I need to grab it and run... for serious work it's a real ballhead.
