Acro Gymnastics

Hello All,
Today I shot a practice run of an acrogymnastics venue to took place in a week. I used a Canon 500D with a EF-S 17-55 2.8 and a 50 F1.8. Since I can be close to the court this range was fine for this job. I could get shutterspeeds from 1/500 to 1/1000 with F2.0 and F1.8. With the F2.8 lens I could use 1/250 - 1/160. For some action those last shutterspeeds were too slow I guess. With the faster speeds there were better results, but sometimes focus was off. I think this was my fault. I used Servo AI, lock AF to * button for AF.
Are there any tips for focussing where the action is mostly dance, combined with acrobatics.
I'll try and upload an example later.
Best regards,
Patrick
