Was about to buy a Toshiba notebook but...

...my DVD drive is no longer working. June 2012, I had to spend a couple hundred dollars to get the hard drive replaced. My mid-priced notebook was l3 months old at the time.
I don't have money to throw away and want to get a windows-based laptop that is more reliable, or are there any?
There are features that I love about my current Toshiba: comfortable-using, backlit keyboard; side air vents so heat escapes from the side and not on your lap; it fan runs very cool and quite compared to other laptops I've used and owned.
For other Toshiba laptops users, have you had problems with yours? Do you keep sinking money into repairs or is there a more reliable PC brand you've bought instead?
