That is very perceptive, I was wondering about that, but what you say makes complete sense.

happens with new cabling which is shiny bright

less of it around here now due to fire risk, cables are bundled insulated

my 5D has done the same thing, the twist in the cables gives intermittent highlights, various angles give different patterns. I would think landscape shooters would be familiar with this
