If Windows 8 is doing the things you claim it is doing, it simply means you never took the time to run the initial "set-up" required by most every new computer I have ever run. (or someone else ran it)
If "Windows update" interrupts your work, (shutting down, re-starting) that means you never told it not to.. its really that simple.
If Nortons "pop-ups" are bothering you, go to control panel and un-install Nortons programs.
The update system in Windows 8 (like "7" before it) can be set to do nothing, can be set to let you know there are updates available and do nothing else, or it can be set to "Auto-update" (default if you do nothing).
If you are too lazy to actually set-up a computer properly you get what you deserve.

I think there is a world of difference between setting something up the way you like it, to reconfiguring to make it usable.
I'm going to shut in 15mins as a default, or should I say you have 15mins to find a solution before I mess you about. You have no idea this is going to be a problem before it jumps out at you. Neither do you know that hopeless swipe option is going to appear, once it does you can't actually do anything to find a solution, because wham there is that full screen page again. It throws unimaginable problems at you, you would never think anyone would think is a good ideain the first place.
I too have configured every computer I've owned to how I like, but not had to dig deep just to turn improvement features off just to make it usable.
So why when I first switched the computer on did it not give me options to configure it how I like, it just assumed I wanted a junk feature like swipe on a laptop, that's just crazy. No excuse for that feature.
You can't blame the user for being lazy because that's installed as a default.
If you bought a car that only turned right, until you reprogrammed it to turn left and go straight and you had no idea it only turned right until you tried to turn left. You could hardly be called lazy because you assumed it would work as normal when you started it up.
I was thinking of getting a PC setup for video, I don't want it to not work.
I did not buy it just to complain about it. Strangely enough I bought it to do a job, a simple job. The upshot is yes it probably will do the job, only after I have found work arounds for the defaults it comes with, that should not be the case.
