I, for one, approve of your grassroots efforts to raise the photographic community's awareness about the concomitant risks and limitations attendant in owning current-generation Nikon DSLRs. This issue is entirely within the jurisdiction of social justice: a beyond-acceptable proportion of Nikon DSLR users has been marginalized and disenfranchised by the reported Q/C issues, and it is laudable that you have chosen to champion their rights. In lieu of the many "thumbs-up" you have heretofore received, I can see that I am not alone in expressing this sentiment.

Some Nikon apologists here have resorted to largely speculative and unsubstantiated hearsay, supplying by way of explanation the Sendai disaster for Nikon's "purported" quality-control shortcomings. That conclusion is mere rationalization-- and absent an empirical foundation is simply untenable and should well be relegated to the rubbish heap by any reasonable, thinking individual.

Do you have evidence otherwise?

To be sure, there are a fair number of users who are eminently satisfied with their cameras, but perhaps they would do well to realize that the current circumstances, in some measure, call for the realization that we need to change the conditions that affect people, not just attempt to change the people who are affected by these conditions.

Not disagreeing with you, but is that any different to the fact that there are only 23 thumbs up for Robert's initial post? Not what I would call a landslide of evidence of an epidemic of QC issues at Nikon.

I am not for one moment dismissing that there are people with legitimate complaints, but I think Robert is trying to  make out that it is bigger than it actually is with a headline grabbing "What has happened to Nikon?" Well, I don't think anything has really "happened to Nikon" other than, yes, I think the earthquake did have an effect on production. I mean, it must have been a real issue to have to get the Nikon manufacturing and assembly plant up and running in a short time and functioning perfectly. This was not just some little tremor that rattled a few light fittings, this was a major event that destroyed whole towns and many lives and I think dismissing this is not helpful and I can't see how you would know whether it was an issue or not. I mean we are just talking about a backyard business throwing together a few lenses and cameras every now and then, but a major assembly plant with many machines requiring utmost precision for correct operation.
