Advice on converting a 400D to IR
I converted a Pentax DL to IR a few years back. The conversion process could be daunty if you don't have the experience disassembling/assembling small electronic gadgets. But the bigger problem is not the conversion process itself. Check out this site (http://ir-photo.net/ir_mod.html) to find out what you are up against before you take your 400D apart. That being said, I will most likely convert my XSi (450D) to IR again when I upgrade it. For one thing I can use more pixels than the 6MP sensor chip of Pentax DL provides (it essentially becomes a 1.5MP camera because only the red sensors are sensitive to IR wavelength). For another 450D's sensor chip has lower noise.-- hide signature --

When you get down to the nuts and bolts of photography, the results depend on the 'nut' behind the camera!
