Which Nikon DSLR is good for bird photography

I wouldn't advise buying a used 50-500 unless you get a guarantee that it will work properly on the d7000. I have several old Sigma lenses that don't AF properly on my d7000 either with Live View or with the regular phase detect AF.

A used d300 would also be a good camera, if you don't like the d7000. The AF is excellent and it should work fine with any of the old Sigma lenses. My d300 doesn't have any problems with any of my old Sigmas, some of which are 9 years old. You should be able to get a good used d300 for about US $600 or so and about the same for a good used d7000.
