This almost certainly means the GH3 is using the same Sony sensor as the E-M5, no?

Yes, it does. I have thought that such was the case all along and the DxO figures confirms it.

How does one then manage to "explain away" that the DxOMark Specifications sections report:

Sensor Photo Detectors: EM5 - 16.11 Mpixels, GH3 - 16.05 Mpixels

Pixel Pitch: EM5 - 3.74 Microns, GH3 - 3.73 Microns

Resolution: EM5 - 4640x3472, GH3 - 4624x3472

Frame Rate: EM5 - 9 FPS, GH3 - 6 FPS

I really see nothing here that needs "explaining away". The two manufacturers chose to employ a few pixels more or less and the difference in pitch may be no more than rounding error. Frame rate depends on quite a few things other than the sensor itself.

All m4/3 16 MP sensors have identical 4/3 frame pixel dimensions of 3456x4608, which gives 15,925,248 total according to my 9 year old math savant grandson, who is never wrong. The DxO Res. figures are simply wrong here.

Hi Pete ! Well, I don't think that their intention is to simply repeat the common "stock" values here (though DxO Optics Pro outputs "stock values" of 3457x4609, just to be a bit different).

They are attempting to report the number of determined to be usable (non-masked) photo-sites that exist outside of the "normal" borders on the left and right edges.

Franksson recently found 4624 usable photo-site columns in GH2 RW2s (4:3 aspect-ratio):

What they do with the marginal pixels no doubt differs between brands and models.
