Epson R1900 print quality

My Epson R1900 has become very undependable, producing output with horizontal bands most of the time. The printer usually responds to a cleaning cycle, but it's gotten to the point that I have to do the cleaning every time I print. This printer had been very dependable for the first year I had it, and I don't see what's changed. I only use Epson inks.

Any ideas?
