When is 50mm NOT 50mm?

I'm glad they got all technical about it.  It's clearer to me now.  I've always treated crop factor like magnification but in fact it's not, it's simply what it says: cropping.  It also means that I didn't really want something like the RX1 because I thought 35mm was really equivalent to 24mm but now I realise that it's not, it's still 35mm, I just get more of the picture than I get with my NEX-5 + 35mm (and I can always crop :)).  Practically it makes no difference as I only shoot APSC and can't justify a FF camera cost wise but the distinction has moved my understanding on
