K-5iis + Sigma 17-50 f2.8 EX DC HSM

I just received a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 EX DC HSM which I tested on my K-5iis however the focusing just seems to hunt and never locks, I tested it in manual focus and the lens seems really sharp.
anyone else seen or heard if there is an issue with this combo or maybe I just got a bad copy
