Question: If you are thinking of spending a lot of hard earned cash on a photographic system does the financial health of the manufacturer play any part at all in your decision?

By way of context have a look at the this short article:

I appreciate that this is not specifically a question for this particular forum but there are as likely to be as many system buyers here as anywhere.

The only folks that care or should care about a single quarterly or one year loss are investors. The reasons to not buy Olympus are legion with financial difficulties being toward the lower end on the list, and the reasons above it contributing to their financial difficulties.

Canon executive, Masaya Maeda, pegged me when he said recently that FF is the future of DSLR. When I moved from compact to DSLR in 2003, I identified FF as the format to be in. I bought a Rebel only as an interim camera. If the rumors had not been rife in 2003 that an affordable FF would appear sooner than later and thus generating hope for me, I might not have even visited DLSRs at all.

The more a company fools with alternative designs and imaging, the more losses it will take in the short term. If one of these techs takes off, the losses become obscene profits. What these companies have to understand is that whatever tech they are playing with probably has to become FF to compete in the markets that DSLR currently dominate.

IMO, one of Canon's biggest problems lie in their lens line-up past 200mm where they have no new lenses targeted/priced for the FF masses.
