Most 35mm FF lenses have problematic bokeh. The Sigma 35mm f1,4 is one of them, which your images show clearly.

See few samples taken with Sigma 35/1.4 wide open:

Quite nervous bokeh due to a tendency to make "double lines". The lines in the shed and fence show this clearly, as do features of your wife (I presume). Look at her nose, what is going on around the nostril areas, the double upper lip and such?

Look at for instance the frame with the 3 photos. Almost impossible to judge what are the actual frame lines and which are new ones due to the lens.

The double linesin the shirt/hand of your kid (I presume) are quite dizzying. Or I must be drunk.

So, all in all not too impressive bokeh wise. But then again, most 35mm lenses on FF leave some to be desired, bokeh wise. I do not know the Nikon's bokeh character, so no idea if it will do better. The Zeiss 35mm f1.4 has much smoother background bokeh, but is more expensive and manual focus only...

Oddly enough, on APS-C there are a number of ~35mm lenses that do have nicer bokeh. The Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX is not one of them, it has crappy bokeh. But the Nikon 40mm f2.8 DX Micro has very smooth bokeh. As does the Sony 35mm f1.8 DT, and the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC is no slouch either.
