The Fujinon 14mm lens
Feb 14, 2013

Yeah Japan!  Here in Kyoto I got some serious hands on experience with the X Pro 1 and X-E1. FINALLY!  EVERYTHING is on display at the camera stores here.  Soooo much better than China.

The 14mm lens is quite nice in size and easily the BEST fly by wire focusing lens I have ever felt.  Very impressive.

What is NOT impress is the wide open performance.  The corners are horrifically blurred.  This is NOT a Carl Zeiss Distagon lens by any measure.  In the next post are two FULL size images from an X Pro 1 w/14mm lens.  The first shot is wide open at f/2.8.  Next I stopped down to f/4.5.  The image cleans up nicely, but still has a way to go for total sharpness.  Looks like f/5.6 is where you need to be.

Speaking of Carl Zeiss, EVERY ZF lens was on display!  I was amazed I could try out all the Planar and Distagon lenses.  No one even standing next to me!!  What an amazing place.
