Judge's Choice Awards: Laos--non portraits

I'm in agreement with the voters this week.  I might have flipped numbers One and Two, but both are interesting in their own rights.  We got about 30 votes for each entry, so another big 'thank you' to all of you who helped out.  About 6 DQs for entrants not voting, but my system seems to be working--at least on the margins--for now.  I am considering refining it a bit (and I'll be asking for feedback before I decide to implement it or not), but that's a subject I'll do on its own.

I really love this image.  Without the shadows on the water, it would be a completely boring shot.  But the shadows give it a graphic quality, add drama, and turned 'boring' into my favorite shot this week.  Well done!

When I first looked at this one, I was on the fence...should I DQ it for being HDR (or HDR-like), or, should I give it one of my favs?  This image really grew on me.  I like the contrast between the sides and the center...if there was vignetting done in post-processing, it was subtle enough to avoid looking garish.  And the great sky helps as well.
