Having said that, I am a VR/VC/OS...or whatever you want to call it, convert. Image stabilization is a revolution in image sharpness. It not only lets you reach for lower shutter speeds, it is insurance at higher shutter speeds.

At 1/500 and faster it can do more harm than good. Read Thom's article.

Turn it off at fast shutter speeds. At lower shutter speeds turn it on and enjoy the benefits. Unless you own the Nikon 24-70. Then you can crank up the ISO or use a tripod.

Overall the VC makes the Tamron more versatile. For those who worship websites...

And the verdict of that review is reasonably on target and why I finally sold my 24-70 2.8, never bought the very good Tamron 24-70 VC and live happily with a 24-85vr. It's odd because I'm a big believer in fast glass. But the 24-85vr really does what my 24-70 did and does it more easily, adds VR versatility and it doesn't weigh or cost a ton. I know my copy is every bit as sharp as the 24-70 2.8 and I simply get more done with it.

Nice to have choices in any case!

Robert
