My recommendation would be to send the lens back for repair or replacement under warranty.

I have had the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 for a couple of months and am very impressed with the VC capabilities.  In fact it performs much better than any of the Nikkor VR lenses I own.  I can get consistently sharp shots at low shutter speeds that are not possible with Nikkor VR lenses.

I like the Tamron a lot and not just because of the low cost.
