Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50 Review

- The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50 can currently be had for around $120 (USD).
- The focusing speed is almost as quick or even sometimes quicker than most cameras costing two to three times as much. Mine can start-up (from being completely off), focus, fully process and save (using a Sony Memory Stick® PRO-HG Duo™ HX card) a full sized image, in less than 2 seconds. Additionally, it can keep shooting at almost 10 fps...
- Image quality is as good as can be had for a small CMOS sensor / high megapixel camera. When the photos are reduced to common web-sized examples, even a (less scrutinous) pixel-peeping, self-proclaimed photo-critic, would probably be on their way, without too much negative blathering...
- Careful use of the the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50, combined with the in-camera HDR or Twilight Modes can provide some very passable to excellent prints and desktop wallpapers. The excellent Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® / f 2.6 lens is probably, mostly responsible for the photo quality of this little gem...
- There's a good amount of in-camera editing and tricks...
- When the battery saving "Eco Mode" is set to "Max", I'm getting about 400 shots (about a third w/ flash) per charge...
- Sony customer service is based on having you send the camera to them, only for them to tell you reasons why their product won't be fixed by them (back and forth, back and forth, etc., until you give up). Buy it locally and get at least a one year in-house (ex. one year Best Buy Protection Plan - $23 - "here, fix, call me when you're done") warranty...
- Just treat it like a cell phone, keep it charged and with you.
A: The one you wish that you had with you (that you could have bought for under $150).
Q: What's the best camera on Earth?

- At this time, for some reason, not too many people really know how good the the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50 is for the money, so there's plenty out there... for now. Buy it locally, with at least a one year in-house warranty and you'll be very hard pressed to do better for under $150.
- Manufacturers will hit the occasional "sweet spot", the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50 is definitely one of Sony's.
