Kurt Munger very recently reviewed the 35mm; two gripes are that he considers it somewhat soft and the appearance of a (large) amount of axial colour fringing. Compared to his other tests I also found the standard macro shot of a stamp at 5.6 to miss detail compared to the 24mm Zeiss, the 50mm Sony and the 18-55 kit lens. (Maybe someone can chime in with an explanation?)

Review can be found here.

So SEL35 owners what are your thoughts? (I went on and ordered mine; have some family extensions forthcoming for which a pairing of this lens with my NEX 7 seems to make good sense to me ).

The E35 has a longish MFD, about 10". I am sure that affects the postage stamp analysis (less pixels for the cropped image).

Not sure what the axial color at f/1.8, f/2.2 and f/4.0 is all about. Any lens sharpens, and the Sony lenses are soft at f/1.8, but so are most legacy lenses. I wonder if this is a sensor related issue as well - a longer lens (eg. legacy or Z24) changes the projection onto the sensor, and may mitigate some of these effect?
