Interesting results, I always like his reviews. Though I have to wonder how much testing the lens on a C3 is affecting performance. Even on the resolution-monster NEX-7 I'm getting much better sharpness than he is. This could also be due to sample variation (along with heat shimmer from that hot Arizona sun!).

On the macro shot, the detail is WAY too low. I wonder if he left OSS on by accident?

Yes after reading your (excellent) review of this lens, I also found his results surprising. I don't think the C3 is the main factor, as the 50mm was also tested with the C3.

Glad to hear you confirm the detail is WAY too low :).

BTW this is the first lens that I'll actually buy separately, any tips on how to check I didn't get a "bad" copy?

You're right, the detail on his 50mm review is noticeably better. Viking's comments are good. The top three things to check for on a possible "bad" lens is making sure that centers are the sharpest part of the image, focusing is accurate, and the aperture blades go from stop to stop without a hitch.

Things like distortion, aberrations, OSS are generally consistent. No worries for sample variation with those things.
