Does it make sense to own both the DX 35mm G and DX 40mm G ?

I've been wanting to try Macro photography for a while on my D5100. I've tried with some normal lenses and it doesn't work very well (85mm f/1.8, 18-105mm) because they can't focus close enough.
I own the 35mm G, it's my "go-to" lens for indoor. I could replace it with the 40mm but I don't want to lose a stop. At the same time it doesn't seem to make sense to own both of them, and maybe I should go with a dedicated AI-S 55mm Micro instead.
How is the 40mm as a walk-around normal lens on the D5100? I know they're both inexpensive so I'm probably fussing over it too much but I hate to see lenses sitting around collecting dust.
