I own neither the D600 nor the 6D, but am trying to decide between the two. I am starting over again with respect to lenses so that is not a factor. Like many I've been eagerly awaiting your review.

I was surprised that you gave the D600 a slight edge in image sharpness when your comparison widget shows the 6D images to be noticeably sharper. Could you elaborate on that?

Other than that, a lot of useful information here for somebody like myself trying to decide between the two. Many thanks.

Cameras are not really "sharper" than one another, the possible sole exception to that being cameras like the D800E with the AA filter negated, and even then you can process an image to look pretty well the same. The lens, processing, etc. all make it so that any camera can pretty well be as "sharp" as any other, if you want to think of it like that.

Canon uses higher default sharpening than Nikon, so when you look at JPEGs, Canon usually has sharper out of camera JPEGS, but all you would need to do is go into the menu and turn up sharpening a few ticks on the Nikon, and they would be the same. Shooting RAW, the only differences in sharpness would be with lenses, technique, and post processing - little to do with the camera itself.

that hasn't been the case for a while - the default JPG output, usually has canon with a higher contrast curve but less sharpening overall.
