I got another 18-55 VR to use as a backup (I've had five others, they're all sold) but discovered that I got a real sharp copy this time so I've had no hesitation taking it out on "important" jobs.
This day was was not that important, just for my portfolio. I like to get up on top of parking garages and get my shots done (before security runs me off!)
I don't normally point my camera up way past vertical to get a shot but I love seeing the light reflecting off buildings so that trumps "verticals straight" sometimes.
and learn some photo technique.
all those photos you posted are snapshots. everything's in focus so there's no focal point. There is no negative space in the photos so they look visually cluttered. There are distracting shadows running across the buildings.
So hate me if you want. Call me a troll. Yada yada, that's fine. But it's kind of a crazy concept to somehow get five (5) copies of the same lens and keep testing them hoping for different results.
Sooner or later you have to realize that photography is a way to express yourself not just keep buying and testing gear. If I were to throw these photos into a stack of photos from other DPReview posters, I wouldn't be able to tell yours from anyone elses. But so many people on DPReview get caught in the cycle of buying and testing gear.
So go ahead, flame away, call me a troll, attack me personally, blah blah blah.

Not gonna call you a troll, just wondering why you feel the need to talk stuff to me. Long ago I made a decision to just ignore whatever you say on these forums and this latest reply of yours is no exception.
there lies your problem. When someone gives you feedback on your photos that isn't pure sunshine and rainbows, you get upset and take it personally. I'm sure you are a great person, but I was commenting on the photos you posted, not you as a person. These a very different things and the sooner you separate them, the sooner you become a better photographer.
Take care.
