The fz100-150-200 cameras are very suited to the technique because they are very fast, rapidly reeling off frames which minimizes any movement. 16 frames taken at iso100 aligned and stacked not only theoretically gives iso25, the resulting frame looks like it was taken at iso25 even just stacking jpegs.
I think this technique may help with still scenes, as a workaround for not having a tripod, but I think a longer exposure should be better for moving objects. I've seen a couple of stacked sample images and I think the areas affected by motion tend to look nervous. The total recording time to catch a certain number of photons is longer when doing a burst than during a single exposure due to the delay between the frames (unless you're stacking from a video stream with shutter time near the refresh period).
Aha yes I agree! (apart from it can also work well with a tripod - my original example pic was taken with tripod) I think it should always be in mind with any method or technique that they are very rarely good for every situation! learn something and use it where you find it works best
And the 'downsides' of a technique can always be explored to create interesting effects!
I have to say in situations where moving water is involved or an animal's fur/feathers I personally find it defeats the purpose of improving clarity as you tend to get a weird 'mushy' effect... but as always depends on what you're attempting to capture
