Thanks everyone for the kind words. It was cold while we were out there at -12 C (10 F) but the bright sunshine and lack of wind made it much more comfortable than it looks in the photos.
SNS HDR really is quite nice. It only does Exposure Fusion and not Tone Mapping so it's easy to get "natural" looking HDRs. With exposure fusion you can pull up detail from things like snow without getting odd halos while tone mapping can give you the kind of HDR images that many people dislike if you're not careful. Photomatix can do both processes but I find the user interface in SNS much nicer.
The polarizer was also a big help in bringing out the blue of the sky and darkening the water. For example, here's a non-HDR closeup of a frosted branch. The polarizer really does make a difference.
