In hindsight, man was that a good price (D600)...

I had an opportunity to borrow and then test the D600 and liked it very much. I figured I'd trade up from my D7000 in the new year and was sorely tempted when the price of the D600 plus the very decent 24-85 (which I tested too) kit lens dropped to $2000 around the holidays. The timing wasn't ideal for me then (as I was awaiting a bonus) and so I passed. I figured a price like that had to, in reality, be the new price. That Nikon had basically set a new expectation for body + lens and that when/if the price went back up, the market wouldn't tolerate it for long.
Uhm.... I think I was wrong. I haven't seen any sign that Nikon is going to go back to that price point.
Moral of the story: you snooze you lose.
On the other hand, anybody out there think the high instant rebates will return? Yes, I'm grasping at straws.
Thanks,
Rey
