Best moderate priced telephoto - (also posted on DSLR Lens site)

Since I'm not as steady as I used to be I've discounted the heavy, large 100-400. Since I also don't use a tripod for wildlife. Too many hikes.

I'm considering the 70-300L and possibly making up for the -100mm to 400 by cropping some. With the focus on that lens it should be fine.

My concern is the weight that's about 40% more than my 15-85.

I'll be visiting a store and trying it out.
