Re: I would not switch to Nikon - a Nikon owner
In reply to mmmmmmmm, 4 months ago

Don't be silly and fall for the megapixel race!!! I own the D800 and I just found out today, after serious testing, that the mirror box is miss aligned and both the left and right focus point are not focusing correctly.

I tested both the right, center, and left focus points in live view and the camera focused correctly - real sharp test image. When I went to phase detect with the mirror down all three of the focus points were off. The center focus point was almost as sharp as live view but the left and right points were way soft.

Right now Both the D800 and D600 are causing Nikon serious problems. The focus of the D800 can be bad, what percentage of all D800s I don't know, and the D600 has oil splatter problems on the sensor.

This problem with the D800's is obviously serious, the web is full threads addressing Nikon's failing production quality. It is a real pity. I am a Canon user (5D III, 7D currently), but we have an extended Nikon gear at home, too, and I'd loved to have a D800 available. But we won't take the risk and get another troublemaker from Nikon, our D300 is not quite encourageing (many AF issues, poor auto WB and color rendition compared with the Canons).

Nikon obviously underestimated the precision level needed for the production of such a highly resolving 36 MP camera body. I think Canon observes Nikon's problems and tries to make sure that they will not run into the same trouble when they'll come up with a 40+ MP body, and according to rumours that's not before 2014:
