Another vote for the 35/1.8 OSS

I've been using NEX for about six months now, but exclusively with legacy glass as none of the native E mount lenses were performing well enough in my opinion. Both kit zooms I found pretty lame (especially on the 7's sensor), and I did like the SEL50 optically but AF was very hit and miss, and slow on top. The Sigma focuses as a snail and the aperture is not wide enough to produce shallow DOF effects. So I was basically using a PEN F 38/1.8 and various excellent 50's in manual focus with my several NEX bodies. At some point I got so frustrated with the whole situation I sold my NEX cameras altogether. But only a couple of days later I missed the NEX IQ and Peaking convenience so much I went and shopped for a 7 again.

Enters, SEL 35/1.8. The OSS is probably great but I really don't care about it. I don't shoot much high ISO and 35 is pretty short anyway so handshake isn't a big issue. I was mostly concerned with how fast the lens would AF and what character the images would have (I dislike clinical rendering like that of the otherwise excellent OLY 45/1.8).

My SEL35 was delivered yesterday and it was nearly love at first use. In daylight the snappy focusing actually surprised me ! In low light there is occasional hunting but unlike the SEL50 or Sigma DN, the lens remains useful.

More shallow DOF

I had ordered the SEL35 with the intent to thoroughly test it and likely return it (as I had the SEL50) but just one hour with it was enough to know it's not going anywhere First E mount lens ever I can live with, and I'm a happy camper.

If you're tired of starting over, stop giving up.
