I prefer 46 Mp Canon NOT for 'higher resolution' but for Dual-Res 23Mp: Hybrid DR/Low-Light Capable

A few months ago, there was a lot of discussion about the arrival of Canon's high megapixel answer to the Nikon 800d.
i'm skeptical Canon needs to respond to Nikon D800 (higher resolution) at all, because there are limitations to current sensors for low light AND good DR combined. the higher res smaller pixels of D800 cap its low-light hi-ISO capability severely; whilst its smaller pixels handle bright/contrasty situations much better (DR), much like tiny webphone pixels do now (in good bright light only).
There were confident predictions that it would have 46 mp and that it would show up soon. I haven't seen any discussion or even speculation since October. Is this camera coming or not? If I buy more Canon lenses in the meantime on the assumption that I will have a high megapixel camera to put them on within a year or so, will I regret buying these lenses and wish that instead I had switched to Nikon's system?
Does Canon realize that there are Canon users who aren't buying Canon lenses these days because of uncertainty about Canon's intentions with respect to staying in the high megapixel race?

asking for that kind of full 46Mp resolution goes beyond any mfr's FF lens systems, even Nikon's.
At the moment, Canon leads in low-light pixels, but in achieving it, emphasizing peerless low-light sensitivity exacts a price in handling DR for brighter/contrasty situations (where shadow details are 'sunk' (lost)) compared to their smaller sensor pixel cousins (found in webphones and D800's, etc)
I would like to see 'net resolution' hover around 23Mp, so a 46Mp actually has 'dual-type' pixels process for a single pixel 'output effect'. each 'dual-pixel' would consist of a smaller pixel (to handle brighter/contrastier lit conditions at LOWER ISOs; which most webphones/digicams/hi-Mp dSLRs handle with ease) combined with a larger pixel (latest exclusive to Canon low-light pixel to handle low-light at higher ISOs).
thus, one could have dual-pixels, but processes as 'one pixel' at the sensor level, while image processing occurs 'as usual' so the processing time is near the same as the current 5DMkIII/1DX/6D.
the smaller pixel would sit offset one side (or middle? which is better?) to the larger pixel.
if light is especially bright, the smaller sensor is favored, if light is especially low/dim, the larger sensor is favored, at the sensor level. is such a sensor possible? i don't know, but others have tried various combinations for other reasons, and may not work out right because of how the information is process, combined or separately. i think if one can get information to be process right at the pixel level, then time is saved in elimination 'extra processing' after the exposure.
pixel binning isn't new, but what one does with those pixels if 'different' rather than 'all the same' is another matter altogether.
this way, we could have a hybrid sensor where it excels at very high DR at very low ISOs in very bright/contrasty scenarios (smaller pixel) simultaneously as excels at very hi-ISOs in extreme low light scenarios at the same time. while Canon excels at the latter, it has forgone with the former; but if they offer BOTH, they could 'lead' in both. at the moment, no one 'leads' for both, they either lead on good DR and suffer low-light hi-ISO 'cap/limits' or not do as well for good DR but excel in low-light hi-ISO unlimited/much higher than before.
in fact, maybe 36Mp makes more sense, a 'dual-pixel' sensor Dual-Res 18Mp from the 1Dx instead. with that resolution, there is a lot more room to 'fit' in 'combo' tiny-large 36/18 1DX/1DC pixels than if one were to opt for the tighter 46/23 of the 5DMkIII/6D family.
landscape shooters in 'good light', can opt for the D800/tripod scenario, and add a remote release for darker conditions, if the really want HIGHER RES 'low-(day)light' [dusk/dawn]. it doesn't interest me that much. i prefer much lower light capability than any sky well lit by either the sun [even if just after setting, or before rising] or subjects by artificial light.
