I am set and done with my 300 f/2.8 II - no need for a mediocre 400 or 500 mm Sigma lens on a budget price

I'm not buying a new lens anytime soon (I need a good monopod more urgently) so I will look at the options when the time comes, but I understand your reasoning. The 300/2.8 II is an amazing and versatile lens and makes a really good 600/5.6, but it's very expensive. If Sigma comes up with a 300/2.8 'Sports' at a good price, I might be tempted by that despite preferring Canon.

Although I have to admit that with the monopod I set out to buy something 'affordable' and am now looking to buy the Gitzo GM3551. If I buy that I know I will have something of absolute quality. I'm a sucker for quality.
