Look at the thread "5 from snowy  Yorkshire" (it's just a few threads from this one).

IMHO when we look at a "snow scene", we don't look at the snow - we look at the objects that are in the "snow scene".

Just as long as the objects are exposed correctly, let the snow do its own thing - just like it does in the real world. Sometimes it's so bright it blinds you and sometimes it's just cold and dull. It all depends on the light.
