Before upgrading to the 5D mk3, I use CF cards exclusively. I don't shoot video and rarely shoot bursts for action. The Transcend 400x series is more than enough for me.
After getting the mk3, I bought a SD card because it cost less than CF. I then discovered it is very useful to have 2 cards in my camera. I can switch from one to another automatically without worrying about when to swap cards.
When shooting events for friends, I write raw files to the CF and JPG to the SD. At the end of the evening, I just handed them the SD card. I can go home to edit my raw files with no pressure of finishing in a hurry.
