If you lined up all the lenses the reason would be even more obvious. For my last two summer holidays with my family I have been happy to rely on a Nikon D700 with 24~120mm f4 VR zoom, but this year we are having a special holiday in California to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. I want to take the photography a bit more seriously this time and some of the locations require additional kit, but narrowing it down to one easy to carry bag is an exercise in futility.

Now I have a decent camera in the OMD and I can fit the camera and 5 lenses in one reasonably sized bag, or just take the camera and 12~50 zoom in a tiny shoulder bag. I can even fit my tripod in. Has anyone else got one of these?......

Mine is an older version but it's a lovely piece of kit! I swapped the head for an Arca-Swiss compatable Benro head. Awesome!!!

Bon voyage!

This is where the size difference really manifests itself.  I traveled last summer with just my MFT kit, and I was able to take 2 bodies (OM-D and E-P1) and 5-6 lenses, plus a couple of small flashes and my tablet.  It all fit into a camera backpack that wouldn't even hold my Pentax K5 with anything other that one of the small primes, and then I could carry a couple of smaller lenses.  And the K5 is a small system for a dSLR.

The size difference is incremental for each piece, but taken together it makes a very big difference.  And I don't feel like I gave up very much in terms of image quality at all.
