sensor MP and lens resolution

I see a thread announcing Sony will be releasing a new 20Mp APS-C sensor and it got me thinking.

If you have all A* class lenses is that enough to do the sensor justice?

For those of us (i.e. me) with more consumer quality lenses (standard DA quality), what's the maximum Mp count it's worth going up to on a sensor ? Has anybody worked this out and related it to lines/mm lens resolution? Someone must have I'm sure.

Of course I realise any new body will probably have other updated features like faster AF, faster FPS etc, and new sensors may have better low light capability which will kind of make it worth upgrading even if the sensor does outresolve the lens.

Just thinking.
