I know what you mean.  The hard part is ignoring the difference in IQ.  But once you pick up a super zoom and are reminded of how light and versatile they are, they make a lot of sense. I suppose it depends on why you take bird photos in the first place.  If it's mainly for their grace and beauty then slr is the obvious choice.  If it's to keep a nice record of what you've seen and where, then there is a strong case for the super zoom.  I'm looking very seriously at the fz200 for that reason (f2.8 across the entire zoom range is an attractive spec).
