clear image zoom - has anyone been using it?

This has been a function I've been using time to time since I've upgraded to NEX-5R. Overall it's still a gimmeck, but it serves its purpose better than cropping afterwards at times IMHO. And I've noticed that it performs much better on the primes than the zooms. Have a look:
SELP1650 (very bad, don't know what happened here...)
SEL50F18
Zeiss 24mm f/1.8
I would be willing to use clear image zoom for serious work if needed for the primes, but definitely not the zooms. Have folks here been getting similar results, or is it just user error on my part? Otherwise clear image zoom really magnifies the pros and cons of each lens!
