So, I know that many people are not crazy about the Sony 24 megapixel sensor, but what about the Toshiba 24 that is in the Nikon D5200?
The new Toshiba 24MP looks very good. The DxO scores are as good as the K-5. I would like to see A K-3 with the 24MP sensor and no AA filter.
Whilt the Toshiba 24MP looks good, it appears as though the sensor isn't living up to the competition in terms of shadow recovery. There is a thread in the Nikon forums with examples of D5200 RAW files showing severe banding.
No clue if this is a design flaw or a characteristic of the Toshiba sensor at this time, though it's looking as though the sensor isn't up to the same performance standard as the Sony variants for the time being.
Aside from that, I'd say things look very good; noise, color etc. (all looking very good).
If you look at the DR of the 16MP sensor in the K-5 and compare it to the 16MP sensor in the Nikon D7000 we see that the K-5's DR appears to be optimized for better performance in shadows and clips out sooner on highlights.
The banding issue may simply be due to Nikon's image processor and how they have chosen to to optimize the DR of the sensor.
And as Adam said on TOS the 16MP sensor used in the K-5 is not the same 16MP sensor used in the K-30. There are probably multiple versions of every sensor each optimized for slightly different performance.

Banding is a sign of contamination from EM hash. The analogue signal from the sensels is very small and has to travel some distance until it reaches the PGA & ADC. The faster the sensor readout circuitry and ADC, the more of a problem hash contamination is.
That isn't generally the case. The EM interference ('hash') you talk about is rarely a major factor in sensor noise. Banding is more generally the visible side of what is called 'Pixel Response Non Uniformity' (PRNU) which is down to that there is some systematic variation in the response of rows and columns. Occasionally you do get an interference banding issue, when the noise of some other component such as a switch mode power supply happens to occur at a frequency which aligns with the readout on the sensor (think, if it didn't, it wouldn't be seen as banding) but in a properly fettled design, that shouldn't happen.
The Toshiba sensor is probably not licensed to use Sony Exmor technology which makes a big difference ("breakthrough") in reducing pattern noise. It does this by having the PGA & ADC on the same chip as the sensor. Most designs have the PGA & ADC on a separate chip which means the analogue signal path is longer.
The only aspect of Exmor which sony has patent protection is the particular configuration that they use for correlated double sampling. The column ADC concept is common and not protected.
