Very unlikely that the HS50 can focus down to 0.4 inch through the entire zoom range. How close can the HS30 focus at full zoom? (the SX50 can focus down to 4.5 feet at 1200mm EFL)

That would be quite the unlikely accomplishment - We shall see.

The preview also mentions the SL1000, that has a 24-1200mm equivalent lens and a 'normal' (non-EXR) 16mp BSI-CMOS sensor. Think that specs like that makes it a very serious alternative to the HS50 for people that need all the reach and all the resolution they can get.

Of course here some would summarily dismiss the SL1000 as a toy because of the motorized zoom .... this.. even if the lens were constructed of a polished diamond with all the clarity of an oracle .... wouldn't make a difference to some. After all ... the basis of a sharp clear picture.. is how fast you can manually zoom. The lens can be made out of corrugated cardboard.

Nikon AF - One Shot ..... One Kill

Don't mix things up. It won't make a difference to YOU if the HS50 lens was made of a polished diamond. Please do your killing in the Nikon forum from now on.

Peter.
