Crop sensor extends reach of lense?

Why?

The lense has its own magnification, so the only effect a crop sensor has is that it cuts out/crops a part of the picture that would still be visible on a FF sensor.

The part that is visible on a crop sensor should be exactly the same as the corresponding part on a FF camera, or am I missing something?
